Budget-friendly summer plans

With the semester wrapping up this week, the only thing I have on my mind is… SUMMER.

As the temperature outside climbs and the sun continues to shine, the possibilities of an adventurous summer are endless.

Unfortunately, this summer is my last “free” summer before I enter the real world. Come next summer who knows what I will be doing and where I will be living so that is why I intend to pack as much travel into these new few months as I possibly can. I plan on taking a few trips to see friends and family before I head over to Italy for the rest of the summer so stay tuned for more posts about my travels.

But summer isn’t all fun and games. Vacations and last minute activities can take a toll on your bank account. Save yourself time and money by planning ahead. Here’s a list of what’s going on during the summer months throughout the Midwest that won’t break the bank.

For the music lover…

Sure, three-day music festivals like Lollapalooza are a blast but they’re also so expensive. Opt for free concerts. Check out Chicago’s Millennium Park Summer Music Series. Enjoy performances from top local, national, and international artists Monday and Thursday nights in the heart of Chicago.

For the foodie…

The windy city is home to the world’s largest food festival. Taste of Chicago offers an array of food, beverages, music, and fun for the whole family in Grant Park. Plus free admission. Mark your calendars for July 6th.

For the craft beer connoisseur…

Head to Indianapolis. Enjoy free tasting hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at Sun King Brewery and sample some of the city’s finest craft beer.

For the nature lover…

Go on a hike throughout one of Indiana Dunes 14 hiking trails. Or enjoy a day at one of Indiana Dunes beaches.
